Hockey
fans in Newfoundland remember Bob Lambert as "Knobby" from the St.
John's Capitals, the guy who turned down a chance to play in the NHL in favor of
a career as a performer and artist.
Bob Lambert
quickly established a reputation as a dynamic solo entertainer with his unique
brand of music and comedy.A
songwriter from the start, his first album, titled "Knobby's Lament",
was released in 1979.Through the
80's, as part of the comedy duo Lambert & James, Bob Lambert released two albums and
established a national reputation headlining at conventions and shows on the
university circuit. Bob has
opened in numerous concert and venues for acts that include Dionne Warwick,
Chris deBurgh and The Beach Boys.Between
1986 and 1990, Bob was nominated by the Canadian Organization of Campus
Activities five years in a row as Musical Comedy Act or Entertainer of the Year,
and in 1992 was the winner of the award for Best Variety Artist in Canada.Since 1993, between gigs on his busy touring calendar, Bob completed his
contemporary album "Win, Lose or Draw" - a collection of nine original
tunes.His latest project,
"Hot Night in Halifax" consists of two hours of original, traditional
Maritime tunes and musical comedy recorded live in Halifax. The album is a rich distillation of music and humor that draws on 18
years of Bob's experience as an entertainer, songwriter and recording artist.
In summer 1998 Bob took part in the Fish Aid festival in Yarmouth, N.S.
which was the first internet transmitted event of it's kind in Atlantic Canada -
reaching millions of viewers.As
well as performing, Bob acted as emcee for the three days and nights to rave
reviews via television and radio.Another
feather in his versatile cap!
Bob Lambert
calls Atlantic Canada home, although he seldom has theopportunity to drop his hat before his travel schedule sends him on the
road again, performing in the many clubs, universities and concert hallscoast to coast in Canada.Newfie
born and bred, he proudly articulates that heritage in the content of his
progressive comedy act.While his
content reaches out to a broad audience, his Irish-influenced Newfoundland lilt
reveals his background to the delight of those who loyally follow his
performances.Uniquely Atlantic
Canadian…but appealing to all, Bob has created a home-grown approach to the
mix of comedy and quality music.Spontaneous
and versatile, he frequently adjusts to the emotion and mood of the crowd he is
performing for.Creating
entertainment for a variety of audiences has been a major factor in Bob's
success.Bob has been a member of
C.O.C.A. for the past 10 years and performs regularly on campuses across Canada.Nominated three times for "Entertainer of the Year", five times
as "Best Musical Comedy" and twice as "Best Variety Artist",
Bob finally won the
C.O.C.A. award for "Best Variety Artist" in '92 - '93.Crowds big and small not only show their appreciation through
unrestrained laughter, but also frequently join in by hand-clapping and singing.
