You might recognize him as Constable George Crabtree on CBC’s long running hit series, Murdoch Mysteries, but Jonny Harris is veteran of the stage and would be the perfect choice for your next festival, convention, or charity event.

Before his start as a recognized actor on your television set, Harris cut his teeth in the comedy scene on the east coast. Originally from Pouch Cover, Newfoundland & Labrador, his time growing up in small town Canada informed his perspective on life and comedy. It wasn’t long before his humour caught the eye of a larger, national spotlight. Leaving Newfoundland for greener pastures, Harris has since received acclaim across the country. As a stand-up comedian, he’s featured as a headlining performer at the Ha!ifax Comedy Fest, the St. John’s Comedy Festival, and the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival. You may have also seen his 1-hour special for Comedy Now!

In addition to stand-up, Harris has toured the nation with his sketch comedy troupe ‘The Dance Party of Newfoundland’. As a critical darling of Toronto, they’ve played in front of packed audiences at various theatres across the city, including the infamous Second City comedy club; and in 2007, they received the “Best of the Fest” award for their participation in the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival.

When he isn’t making huge crowds laugh with his observational humour and zany comedy troupe, Harris dabbles in both writing and acting for the screen. In 2010, Harris has enjoyed recognition for his role in the feature film, Grown Up Movie Star, which was shown at the Sundance Film Festival. For his performance in Murdoch Mysteries, he has received two Gemini nominations for Supporting-Lead Actor. Currently in its ninth season, the CBC’s crime drama is shown across the world in over 18 countries, making Harris one of our most well-known performers in our roster.

Most recently, Harris is starring in another CBC production as the host of the brand new series Still Standing. Inspired by his own upbringing in Pouch Cover, Harris travels across Canada visiting small towns down on their luck. There, he meets with the inhabitants to give voice to their struggles and provide an insightful and funny take on what life is like in a small Canadian town. Using everything he’s learnt during his stay, Harris performs for the town with a stand-up show that features wickedly funny, tongue-in-cheek jokes about his experience.

Part of the appeal of Still Standing – and so much of his other work – is how comedy can be an important part of overcoming adversity. From Pouch Cove, Newfoundland to the biggest city in the country, Harris has overcome his small town odds and made quite the career for himself. Versatile as he is funny, his relatable and quick-witted humour is perfect for any type of crowd, watch Jonny’s video.

You can call him Canada’s boy-next-door, CBC’s favourite actor, or a comedic “Jack of all trades”, and you’d be right with each of them. As an acclaimed actor, stand-up comedian, and performer, Harris is sure to keep your guests entertained.
