Carla Collins is an award-winning comedian, television host, actress and writer, and one of Canada’s premier radio and television personalities. She has been hailed by the press as “Canada’s Tina Fey” and the “Queen of Comedy.”

Experience: Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Carla began her broadcasting career while a student at the Universite’ de Franche Comte’ when she hosted a highly rated program on Radio RVF in Becanson, France. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario with an honours degree in French language and literature, Carla went on to host both French and English radio and television shows in Montreal and Toronto.

In 1990 Carla joined The Weather Network as an anchor. Her constant jokes and unique forecasts – including her “All-Request Weather Weekend” – led to the start of her comedy career after her harried boss urged her to consider stand-up. Carla’s television career continued when she became host of the Toronto daytime talk show Eye On Toronto. In 1995, she began co-hosting the CTV entertainment newsmagazine Entertainment Now while doing double-duty as the popular entertainment anchor for CFTO’s highly rated evening newscast.

In 2000, she secured her own half-hour comedy series Chez Carla on The Comedy Network and in early 2001, landed her first solo stand-up special1 The Wonder Bra Years which aired on both The Comedy Network and CTV. The special was a critical and ratings success, capturing a Gold Award for Best TV Comedy Special at Worldfest: Houston International Film and Television Festival. An accomplished stand-up comic, she has performed across North America including appearances at the 2001 Vancouver Comedy Festival and Montreal’s renowned Just For Laughs festival, where she shot the upcoming comedy special, Front Row at Just For Laughs.

Carla Collins is also a popular comic actor, appearing weekly as the lusty Hollywood hussy Rusty Sinclair on Showcase’s campy primetime soap Paradise Falls. She also frequently guest-stars on a wide range of television shows including YTV/Fox Family’s The Zack Files Fox’s Tracker and CTV’s The City (where she played a dominatrix). She made her feature film debut in 2001 alongside Samuel L. Jackson in The Caveman’s Valentine. She is the first woman in Canada to front a major market morning show, currently hosting “Carla & Company” on Toronto’s MIX 99.9. She hosted the CTV variety series Sonic Temple and was spotted on the red carpet at the 73rd Annual Academy Awards, entertaining Canadian viewers as CTV’s on-site correspondent.

Carla just finished filming the movie “The Extra” with her husband Tyrone Power and she stars in the short films “Brain Freeze” and “Pizza Bagel” set for release in 2012. She can also be seen this season on “Scare-tactics” and has appeared on just about every Canadian TV show including “Entertainment Tonight”, “Degrassi:The Next Generation”, “Paradise Falls” and “Chez Carla.” She currently co-hosts “Between the Sheets”, a wild, no-holds barred podcast which can be heard on www.hottalkla.com.

Performance Style: Carla is a gifted and beloved entertainer. She is also skinny, over-the-top, of French Canadian descent, and she’s been screwed by her manager for years. Think of her as Celine Dion without the money and the eight-octave range. Carla exploits her life’s trials and tribulations from growing up as a young girl in the “Soo” through her university days in the 80s to her many glamorous (and sometimes scary) hair-incarnations. She has been bringing live audiences to tears of laughter across the continent.

Why Hire Carla Collins? Carla performs all over the United States and Canada. She brings her unique mix of wit and professionalism to every event she hosts, from a private corporate function to anything involving a red carpet. She is a gifted stand-up hailed as the “Queen of Comedy” by no less an authority than Flare magazine.

Works Well in this Type of Event: Private Events, Corporate Events, Comedy Festivals, Casino Events, Charity Events, Speaking Events, and Conventions.
