HOJA (hoe-jah) is a Canadian acappella group formed in the summer of 1998 and originally based out of Saskatoon, SK. Originally, HOJA started out performing for company Christmas parties, community events, corporate functions, and other events for adults and families. However, they soon realized they could have a tremendous impact on the youth of today by developing a school presentation that not only entertained the students, but also gave them some concrete tools for helping to shape their lives and achieve their dreams as they have done for themselves.
Experience: Over the past decade, HOJA has recorded five CDs (selling over 25,000 units) and performed for more than 3,000 audiences from British Columbia to Ontario. Their repertoire is filled with favorite songs from the 50s to the present that span every style of music – from doo wop to rock, country to disco – no genre is safe from Canada’s acappella heroes! Now, with a few new faces, a CD recording, and a newly updated show, HOJA is prepared to launch its second year of touring.
Performance Style: Each member of HOJA sings a variety of different voice parts including bass lines, lead vocals, tenor and baritone parts, instrument sounds such as guitars and trumpets, beatboxing and drum noises, and assorted sound effects. Audiences are often amazed to learn that every sound during the performance is being created live by the singers on stage, there are no backup tracks!
Why hire Hoja? They perform for many types of events such as community and corporate events where guests enjoy some energy, laughter, and great music. One of their newest initiatives is their COMMUNITY BUILDER CONCERTS which act as fundraisers for local schools. Impeccable harmonies, energetic choreography, and a diverse selection of repertoire are presented in a uniquely entertaining performance style that audiences of all ages will enjoy. Their songs span every style of music, from country to disco, doo-wop to rock, nothing escapes the transition to a cappella music. This transition is often humorous, with audiences finding themselves enjoying styles of music they might otherwise not listen to. With over 90 minutes of repertoire, HOJA’s youthful, clean-cut presentation has delighted audiences nation-wide, and their sense of humor and dynamic personalities keep these audiences coming back time and time again.

“People say that the entertainment you book either makes or breaks your party/gathering. With that said, I would absolutely have to say that HOJA made our event. The high energy and camaraderie that these three guys have is incredible. They played a wide variety of songs that appealed to all. We clapped, hooted and hollered, and had a barrel of laughs with them.”
Dorothy Lacoste, NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology), Edmonton, AB
“HOJA hit the stage singing and dancing, and had the audience captivated in the first 30 seconds of the show. Their energy and enthusiasm was infectious! The guys were a delight to work with before, during, and after the concert.”
John Barth, Lakes District Arts Council, Burns Lake, BC
“With such a diverse audience it can be difficult to please all in attendance; however, by the end of their performance HOJA had everyone in the audience engaged, clapping, and even singing along to their songs! The gentlemen from HOJA were a pleasure to work with, and went out of their way to ensure the crowd they were entertaining would enjoy what they had to offer.”
Chelsea Wright, AREVA Resources, Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum
“HOJA is an incredibly well-rehearsed group with soaring vocal harmonies, phenomenal beatboxing, and an overall sense of fun that resonated with the crowd. The music was excellent, and it was hard to believe there were no instruments involved. The incredibly realistic drum, bass, and guitar sounds were created with the group’s vocal chords. They proved they could handle doo-wop material familiar to older audience members, 80s hits for the 30-somethings, and current tunes for the youth.”
Sam Thompson, Virden Empire Advance, Virden, MB
“The energy and talent of the performers was obvious. We were particularly pleased with the way they got the audience members involved. We would heartily encourage others who are looking for an hour of high energy, fun, and fantastic musicianship to consider hiring HOJA.”
Richard Starke, Lloydminster Animal Hospital, Lloydminster, AB
“It was particularly clever of you to tailor your songs to our audience. All enjoyed asking our “cowboy” president to join you in a song. Your collective talent and range of voice were outstanding.”
Donna St. Onge, Canadian Association of Pre-Retirement Planners, Saskatoon, SK
“Their choice of musical selections was perfect and their ability to get the crowd to interact was very effective. Their high energy and showmanship are outstanding. HOJA is a must to see, to hear, and to experience. They definitely create the “WOW” factor for their audiences.”
Jill McDougall, Midwest Shrine Association, Regina, SK “From the perspective of the presenter, I can also say that they were hardworking, reliable, enthusiastic, and willing to go the extra mile.”
Karen Oliver, Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba, Brandon, MB
“The members of HOJA bring all the equipment they need for the performance and require virtually nothing from the presenter. The group arrived on time and were a real joy to work with; they are truly some of the nicest young men I have ever had the privilege of meeting. The performance was absolutely wonderful and completely enjoyed by every age group. When they were gone, the stage area and the dressing room were left in immaculate condition, many times this is not the case. I have the highest regard for the talent and the caring manner displayed by the members of HOJA.”
