Every
once in a while, a speaker
comes along who is uniquely special. Beyond the pump and hyperbole of
professional public speaking, you'll find Sharon Fawns. Just call her Fawnsy,
not Fonzy - Fawnsy - like the deer that roam by the thousands 'round the small
southern Alberta farming town where she grew up, (population: 1,800 -
including cats, dogs and gophers). Sharon was the middle child in a
sprawling family of eight children - "The bottom of the top half,"
she says. Her father was a trucker and heavy equipment operator. Her mother
worked as an aid on a hospital ward. Fawnsy grew up poor. She was quiet
as a child, except at home. At Sunday dinner, there were usually at least 15
kids at the table. The neighbors knew a good meal when they smelled one.
Sharon went to high school, to college and finally to university. For almost
two years, she worked as a church missionary in the mid-west U.S. Bible belt
and from there took a job at a southern Alberta guest ranch. Over the next 20
years, she did almost every job you can imagine - and some women weren't
supposed to do. She worked as a cook, a nanny, a grocery store manager, a
convenience store clerk, even a cowhand. In the course of her career,
she's accumulated an astounding range of life experiences. She wears the hats
of a livestock midwife, a small town preacher, part-time accountant,
backstroke swimmer, even a roller skating instructor. She's got 10
grandchildren, 35 nieces and nephews and she knows a lot about life.
Most of all, she knows a lot about laughter - and how to make YOU laugh. She's
studied it, practiced it, preached it and performed it. It's become her
vocation. She's become an expert at laughing at life - at its victories, its
defeats, its little everyday titters and its big league catastrophes.
For the 15 years, Sharon Fawns has been a professional entertainer, comedienne
and seminar leader. Through her wealth of life experiences, she has created a
cast of characters, quips and intriguing insights that are not just funny, but
useful - to you, your business and your personal life. From her zany
keynote presentations of "Rachel the Hutterite," and "Carol
Yvonne Ruth Anne Alabaster" the 4-year-old, to her practical workshops
and seminars on humor, she captures the essence of life from the sprawling
prairie to the big city. She is creative, down-to-earth and unpretentious. But
most of all, she's down-right delightful.. If you're fortunate enough to
attend one of her chuckle clinics or see her perform you will do more that
laugh; you will come away with a keener understanding that life can be a
laughing matter, and that laughing matters.
Testimonials:
"Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you regarding the
entertainment we enjoyed at our company Christmas party. Sharon did a smash
up job for us! She was a wonderful addition to our festive evening, and her
jokes and light jabs at some of our employees were very well received. She
kept everyone in stitches and all found her character true and delightful in
every detail.
We hope she enjoyed the evening and her stay in Stettler as well, and would
recommend her to anyone that might be considering her for an event
regardless of the type of audience. Her sense of humour would appeal to all.
Thank you again for all the help in arranging her appearance at our
function, and please pass along our appreciation to her for making our
company Christmas party a huge success!!
All the best to all of you in the New Year!"
